*** NEW PROGRAM*** Power System Consultants can determine transmission line parameters within 2% error from SCADA on-line measurements. This program has been successful at several utilities to improve their correlation with power flow, improve economic dispatch with line losses, and reduce State Estimator residuals. Contact Power Systems Consultants for a free demonstration of the program.
Power Systems Consultants (PSC) has developed, and field-implemented at several utilities, its own coded programs for State Estimation, Economic Dispatch with multiple fuel cost curves and power dead-bands, Economy-A Interchange Negotiation with schedule storage and retrieval. Latter 2 programs integrated with AGC.
For distribution-level utilities, PSC has developed and tested a three- phase load flow program for unbalanced feeders and a short-circuit program for single line, line-to-line, or three-phase faults on unbalanced feeders. Additional programs to isolate faulted zones and re-connect dormant zones have been tested on stand-alone..
PSC has taught power systems operation and control to dispatcher trainees of a electric power utility as part of their two year program. The material consisted of lectures on steady-state operation of generators, transformers, transmission and distribution lines, shunt compensation for voltage control. The lectures also covered line switching transients, power transfer capability of generators, relaying, and emergency operating conditions. Power interchange between areas and Area Control Error were treated.
PSC has developed dispatch loss algorithms for generators in utility energy management systems. The programs started with on-line topology and the state of the power system, then perform a network reduction to tie lines, generators, and a single conforming load in order to calculate the loss coefficients corresponding to the present power system topology. The computation is extremely efficient and used on a demand basis to replace the on-line loss coefficients in the classical coordination equations for economic dispatch. One application was for an optimal power dispatch to allocate reactive injections and generation for the network. Line flow limits, VAR limits, and generation constraints were incorporated into either the load flow or dispatch equations. Both the load flow and dispatch were in an iterative loop.
